So you're finally ready to tackle those old countertops! Bravo (hand clap)

Here's the truth

Contact paper is indeed just paper with a plastic film on top that isn't really that durable.  This is why you must take the steps while doing your project to protect your contact paper.

I needed a temporary floor, so I placed contact paper in my craft room and immediately covered it with polyurethane.  You can watch that here.

When it comes to your countertop for your kitchen, using the right product to help protect your hard work and time is essential.  I went through a trial and error project to see which product would be best to use for your countertops or any other project dealing with contact paper, for that matter.  It's all about personal taste because each product gave a different look; however, it all protected the same.

I strongly suggest using something very durable, like very thick epoxy resin. However, using the products I list in this video are options, especially if you are a renter.

Good luck on your project I hope it comes out exactly how you wanted to, and you are indeed protecting your contact paper no matter what surface you place it on.
